Types of pearls

Pearls have slightly different white tones and come in other colors, such as pink, grey, and blue. Before investing in a pair of pearls for your bridal ensemble, you should understand the different types and how their quality varies.

  1. Akoya pearls: They are saltwater pearls, the classic ones of choice. They are distinguished by their perfectly round shape and sharp, reflective luster. Akoya pearls are typically produced from 4mm to 10mm.so, brides, if you are looking for a classic strand of round white pearls, the Akoya pearls are the way to go.

  2. Tahitian pearls: Tahitian pears, also known as dark and exotic pearls, are saltwater cultured pearls. They are the only naturally occurring dark pearls grown in French Polynesia. Although they are commonly referred to as black, Tahitian pearls come in various exotic colors.

They are commonly found in round shapes, but they also come in fun shapes such as drops, baroques, ovals, etc. They range in size from 8mm to 15mm. Furthermore, because they are naturally dark in color, these pearls are an excellent choice to add a mystical, otherworldly charm to your outfit.

  1. South sea pearls: South sea pearls, also known as the rolls Royce of pearls, are saltwater pearls grown in Australia, the Philippines, and Indonesia. They are the giant saltwater pearls grown today and range in color from white to gold, making them ideal for an opulent ensemble. They are precious due to their enormous size, which ranges between 10mm to 14mm.

  2. Freshwater pearls: They are the least expensive pearls available today. They are distinguished by their baroque shape, white and pastel-colored body, and softer luster than Akoya. They are available in various pastel colors and shapes ranging from round to oval. These pearls are typically 5mm to 12mm in size.

  3. Shell pearl: Shell pearl jewellery is not the same as pearl jewelry. They are created from the inner lining of oyster shells, also known as the mother of pearl. They vary in quality, like most pearls, but they are significantly less expensive than saltwater.

Essential tips for buying pearl jewelry

The following are the top things to consider before investing in pearl jewellery:

  1. Select the appropriate pearl type: You should be aware that there are four main types of pearls to choose from Akoya, freshwater, Tahitian, and golden/white south sea pearls. Each is a one-of-a kid in terms of shape, size, luster, and price. Akoya pearls are the way to go if you want traditional, white pearl jewellery that is also valuable.

  2. Choose the ideal size: You must decide whether you want larger peals for a special occasion or party or smaller pearls that you can wear daily. The most famous pearl size people choose is between 7 and 9.5mm. Remember that the larger the pearl, the more valuable it is.

  3. Choose the appropriate necklace length: Pearl necklaces are available in various lengths. The standard length, also known as "princess length," is approximately 18 inches long. This length is ideal for a variety of outfits. To take the right measurement, take a flexible measuring tape and take the circumference of your neck. You can add ½ inches to that and you will get the right length of your necklace.

  4. Understand your financial situation: Each pearl is priced differently. Various factors, including size, rarity, luster, craftsmanship, etc., determine the cost of pearl jewelry.

  5. Visit the appropriate vendor: Investigate all available vendors and select the most reliable one. Choose a vendor specializing in pearls with fair return and exchange policies.

Closing thoughts

Pearl's care begins the moment they are removed from the jewelry box. Wear your pearl jewellery after applying make-up. Hairspray, perfumes, and other cosmetics contain harmful chemicals that dull the luster of your pearls over time.

It is also necessary to remove your pearl jewelry before proceeding. Pearls are so delicate that even acidic household items like vinegar, fruit juice, and lemons can harm them. As a result, wearing pearls while performing daily tasks such as bathing, washing, or swimming is strictly prohibited.
