Any place like a hospital where patients arrive with sudden emergency requires the emergency / crash trolley. These trolleys are not just used for transporting the critically ill patients but also to have the required medication and equipment that may be required for providing proper treatment to the patients. So, we see the usage of these crash trolleys to be extensive:

  1. Transportation of critically ill patients.

  2. Having medications for treatments

  3. Make available of required equipment for emergency treatment in the first thirty minutes.

The Institutions That Require Such a Trolley

There are certain institutions which require the emergency / crash trolley and they are as follows:

Things That Must Be in The Emergency and Crash Trolley

It is good to know what should be there in these emergency trolleys. It is well to have such trolleys prepared so that when any emergency patient arrives treatment can be started immediately.

  1. Basic equipment for providing airway to breath

  2. Intravenous equipment

  3. Cardiac arrest treatment medication

  4. Medications used for treating cardiac dysrhythmias

  5. Equipment for monitoring patient condition

  6. Medication and nasal spray

There are certainly other things that also need to be there in the trolley.

  1. Endotracheal intubation equipment

  2. King Airways

  3. Narcan

  4. Additional antiarrhythmics

The Equipment’s That Helps Critical Patients

  1. Basic Equipment That Need to Be in The Emergency / Crash Trolley: Basic equipment for providing airway to breath for the patients that comes in a critical condition. Medical help may be required to facilitate breathing. The bag valve masks, oral and nasal airways, oxygen masks and nasal cannulas, Magill forceps should be available in the trolley so that emergency help can be provided to the critical patient.

  2. Intravenous Equipment for Providing Quality Medical Help : There needs to be some intravenous equipment made available in the cart so that proper medical help can be provided. The things that need to be there are angiocaths, IV tubing and IV fluid. If the medical facility elects to make use of intraosseous access for emergency medications, then a drill and needles must also be included.

  3. Medication for Cardiac Arrest: There must be certain medications the emergency trolleys so that proper medical help can be provided to patients having cardiac problems. Medicines like Epinephrine and Amiodarone must be in the trolley to provide such treatment. If the institute wishes to provide best treatment for cardiac dysrhythmias then medications like Adenosine, Cardizem, a Beta Blocker and Atropine must be provided in the emergency trolley.

  4. Equipment for Monitoring Patient Condition: There must be proper equipment for monitoring the condition of the critical patient who arrives at the centre. These pieces of equipment must be of high standard so that proper knowledge can be had regarding the patient condition.

  5. Other Medications That Need to Be in The Trolley: There are various other medications which need to be in the trolley. There must be medicines which can effectively treat allergic conditions and certain sprays so that blocked nose can be cleared for providing proper passage for breathing. There are certain other pieces of equipment which can also be included in the trolley depending upon the facility provided by the medical institute.

  6. Equipment Helping Doctors to Perform Anesthesia: There must be Endotracheal intubation in the trolley so that medical professionals can provide the patient proper anesthesia if required.

  7. Means to Reverse the Effect of Narcotics: There must be adequate means to reverse the effect of narcotics in the emergency trolley.
