Herringbone Vs Chevron Flooring Patterns
There is always a major confusion between chevron parquetry and herringbone parquetry. Often people misinterpret the two designs and call the chevron parquetry as the French herringbone which is not true.
The herringbone parquetry is recognized by the 'broken zigzag designs’ whereas in case of chevron parquetry, it has zigzag designs but they are continuous.
In case of the herringbone pattern, the wooden blocks are not cut but the end of the plank is adjoined with the adjoining end of the plank. However, in chevron parquetry, the blocks of wood are cut at a specific angle.
In herringbone pattern, the ends of the planks are butted, whereas in the chevron pattern, the blocks are fixed and places in a particular manner so that the ends of these blocks touch each other 'to form miter joints’
