As winter approaches, one of the biggest worries for people is the increase in the bills related to gas heating. Nonetheless, you must know that there are many ways in which money can be saved during the winter. The immediate reaction will be to look at a cheaper or alternative way for heating. However, one should realize that following some simple tips will help in saving money, energy, and time.

Some of the most well-known tips are-

1. Carefully Look at Leaks at The Door Thresholds and Weather Stripping

If the door thresholds and weather stripping are wearing out, the probability of energy wastage is likely to be higher.  For this reason, you should pay attention to these aspects. After checking everything, it is alright to caulk the holes, add good weather stripping material, which in turn helps in trapping the heat. Overall, all the doors should be sealed properly.

2. Use Smart Heating Procedures to Save Money

You can lower the temperature of the central thermostat for setting your bath water to a bearable limit rather than keeping it at the maximum level and then, adding cold water for your comfort. This, in turn, helps in bringing down your gas bills.  Furthermore, if certain rooms are not being used during the day, they should be kept shut. By doing so, less gas is used to heat the house and results in greater gas saving benefits.

3. Sealing Pipes, Wires, And Ducts

It is efficient to use caulk to seal any plumbing ducts that are located in ducts, pipes, or wires that run through the wall or floor. Even if some of the portion is exposed, it leads to wastage of gas heating energy. One more way of saving gas is to ensure that pre-cut foam gaskets are fitted in switches and electric wall plugs because it helps to avoid any gas leakages.

4. Cleaning Filters and Reducing the Time Duration of The Showers

If a filter is dirty, the probability of the gas heating system utilizing higher amount of energy is greater.  Hence, it is a good practice for the user to clean up the filter as frequently as possible. This improves the overall efficiency of the gas heating system. One more way that can improve the efficiency of the gas heating system is to reduce that overall duration that you spend in the shower.  By reducing the shower time, gallons of hot water can be saved on a monthly basis from every household.

5. Reducing the Temperature of Hot Water

This tip alone can result in saving close to 7% of the gas heating energy. If the temperature of the water is set to 120-degree Fahrenheit, it is more than enough to have a good warm bath. If the user manual specifies that a higher temperature need to be used, only then the temperature can be increased. If the manual does not specify anything, then it is best to stick to 120-degree Fahrenheit.

6. Improving the Overall Insulation of The Ceiling

Increasing ceiling insulation results in close to saving 5% to 25% of gas heating. If the house is not insulated appropriately, then the needful should be done.  Moreover, one of the simplest ways in which the gas heating energy can be saved is by opening the drapes and allowing more natural sunshine to come into the house.

Saving energy in gas heating systems actually boils down to some habits that have been embedded in the psyche of the users. It is always a good practice to continuously self-evaluate how gas can be used inside the house and the ways of reducing energy on a daily basis. Overall, all the tips shared above are very simple to follow and cost effective. Following these tips will ensure that at least some of the money that is spent on gas heating bills is saved.
