Things You Need To Do Before Termite Control

Termites are one of the plagues that haunt many households. Their sheer destructive nature and ability to reduce any piece of furniture or paper to mere pulp within a short time is not only worrisome but also scary. Forms of pest reduction are possible not through any household means, but the professional investigation is necessary when one goes for pest reduction on a large scale. The process of tackling pests is called fumigation and is used to control not only termites – all three kinds – but also for other pests like roaches, fleas and bed bugs.

Preparing Your House For Termite Control

There are many signs that indicate you have a termite problem and you need to resort to termite control and besides the obvious of their tunnels crisscrossing across your house there are other initial signs that your house might have a termite infestation. The most common of them being you mistake them for white ants with wings. One needs full preparation of home including recesses of the walls and the crevices of the floors. There should also be enough space for people when spraying is carried on. Space should be equated as per the concentration of insects.   Timber also sounds hollow when tapped. When you see these signs you must immediately contact termite control so that the problem does not escalate. While there are medicines available that will help you solve the termite problem, it is not a permanent cure and contacting professionals is the best option. Once you have contacted the professionals, you need to prepare your house and yourself for the fumigation process.

Here are a few tips that you must follow before the termite control takes place:

  1. Before fixing a date, you must have alternative lodgings for your family and pets. The chemicals used for the process may not be potentially harmful to humans – except for people who suffer from allergies – but to pets these chemicals are fatal. No use risking the safety of everyone.

  2. Every food item should be sealed and locked and stored away. Even the refrigerator should be covered with nylon covering. If the food is not in air-tight containers and sealants then store them away. The same is applicable to medicines.

  3. You either need to remove the waterproof plastic coverings from your furniture or if you want to be safe then you can remove the mattresses from the home to your alternative house before termite control.

  4. Indoor plants should be removed too. The surrounding shrubbery too should be trimmed and removed from near the house. Homeowners should also see the absence of any poisonous or toxic plants at home.

  5. Normally termite control requires a tent to be put up encasing your house and to aid in the sealing of the tent you should have the dirt and gravel surrounding your house soaked deeply.

  6. Open all connecting door and leave the keys with the fumigator for they will need uninterrupted access to your rooms to perform better pest control.

  7. You need to turn off all appliances so that they are easy to move and access all corners where termites might potentially hide. You also need to make sure that the gas company turns off the gas to your house for the duration of the termite control.

The process of termite control will take not more than 3 to 4 days depending on the severity of the infestation. Getting rid of termites immediately will help you not only save your precious furniture but also save your personal artifacts, keeping your memories scratch-free. It is generally advisable to choose certified and reputed termite control experts in his case.
