9 Situations When You Need an Electrician

Updated: Feb 23

The job of an electrician is to install, operate, maintain and repair electrical wiring and electrical equipment in your house, office, and everywhere around because this is not something we can do ourselves and definitely need a skilled person to ensure it is done accurately and correctly to maintain the safety of your family, house, office, and neighborhood.

While the electrical wiring is done with utmost attention and care at the time of building a place, they need to be checked once in a while and cannot be assumed to go for a lifetime without any maintenance or repair.

There are many a time that we tend to ignore signs but instead should immediately call an electrician to get the wiring and electrical equipment checked in order to prevent any hazardous incident in the future. Some of the situations which need an electrician promptly are-

  1. If you have relocated to a new home or office and have no idea of the electrical system, then call for an electrician and get the inspection done to check all electrical wiring so that if there is any fault, you can get it treated beforehand and save yourself from a bigger problem later.

  2. Houses made years ago and left without renovation over the years might have power outlets that are compatible with only two-prong plugs. Dial up the electrician’s number and ask him to update to a safer option by updating the system, as three-prong plugs are rather safer as well as grounded.

  3. There are times when we get mild electric shocks from touching our equipment, but we tend to ignore it, thinking that it's nothing, but this calls for immediate action to save your electrical appliance and, not to forget, for your own safety.

  4. You might be getting high electric bills for some months and cannot find out the actual reason. A problem in the electrical setup sometimes might be the reason, so instead of ignoring the issue and adjusting the bill, ask your electrician to look for the fault.

  5. Getting more technology-dependent, we work with a lot of devices on a regular basis, and if you are using an extension cord because of a shortage of power outlets, it is completely normal as many other people are doing the same. While an extension cord can be a quick fix for a while, the best option for the long run is to call an electrician and ask him to install more power points.

  6. Need to charge your phone and laptop at the same time, and there is just one power outlet in your room? Overloading one power outlet can be hazardous if continued for a long time. Therefore, putting over the stress of multiple devices over a single outlet, install more.

  7. If you are observing the flickering of lights on using heavy appliances or several appliances at once, your electrical system needs an inspection by the electrician.

  8. Water and electricity do not go hand in hand and so if you are installing lights in outdoor areas like the pool or garden, make sure to take your electrician's opinion.

  9. We tend to ignore buzzing sounds amidst our busy lives, but that is asking for your attention and getting your electrician to work to repair the fault.

It is always better to take precautions than to regret it later and so if you are facing any of these issues, call your electrician immediately. And most importantly, never try to do it all by yourself because it is too risky. Always leave it to professionals who know it best.
